Onam – the traditional festival of Kerala is being celebrated every year which falls on the Malayalam month of Chingam i.e. between August to September. It is a ten day carnival would be celebrated by Keralaets all around the Country.

 

It is a Historical Festival, being celebrated in remembrance of the King Mahabali, who ruled the state and was buried down the Earth by Lord Krishna in disguise of Vamana. It is the tradition of the people from the state, who believes that during the Onam celebration the King revisits his Kingdom and would ensure the Prosperous and Successful life for his People.

There would be numerous ceremonials being performed during this Festival days around Kerala, some of the eye catching ceremonies are Attam nakshatram of Chingam, Maveli Pooja, Onathallu, Onakazhcha. Thiruvonam is an important day of this festival, where some big Feasts are organized. Rangolis, Pookoolam (Arts made of Flowers) are another traditional aspect of the Festival. Apart from this the ancient culture and tradition of the state will be very much replicated in all the aspects. There will be sporting events like ‘Uthratdhi Vallamkali’ a traditional snake boat race would be performed.

 

Rather a festival this would be the time where everyone in the family would be reunited and share their Happiness and Joy.
